Sankofa Festival "Sanfest"African Ambassadors at Work

8th Annual Sankofa Festival

African Ambassadors is able to continue their honorable work through an annual fundraising gala called Sankofa Festival. The festival spans over two days beginning with a Health Fair and ending with the formal gala. Sankofa is the notion that often in life we must go back and retrieve what we have forgotten in order to move forward into the future. For African Ambassadors the term Sankofa is an inspirational mantra which dictates that we should never forsake our roots.

The Sankofa Festival is a great time of celebration and reminiscing of the past year’s efforts to aid the underprivileged in our society with healthcare. The gala is a grand, formal event that is a conglomerate of cultures coming together under the common bond of generosity and love. It is an evening flushed with the vibrant colors of traditional African dress and filled with dining, dancing and celebration. Each year the event is nestled in early Autumn and is meant to welcome in the new year with hope, gratitude and determination to spread the breadth of African Ambassador’s mission further.

This year the event is going to be the most impressive yet. It is an evening slated to be filled with an enchanting meal, empowering speeches, traditional live drumming and a series of fashion exposes that highlight a convergence between African and American cultures. Set in Tampa’s beautiful downtown Hyatt the 7th annual Sankofa Festival will be a night rich with fond nostalgia as we reflect upon the years past and look forward into the bright and hopeful future.

A precedent unlike past events is the strong focus on fashion. Local fashion designers will be showcasing their lines giving the guests at our 8th Annual Sanfest a sneak-peek at the avant garde fashion world of Tampa Bay. The fashion expose and show will be a fabulous highlight of the event.

October 2011 at the Hyatt Downtown

Sankofa Festival officially begins at 7:00pm with a reception starting at 6:00pm. Children are not permitted at the event, and it is formal attire.
